Craig Levein has revealed that he rejected an approach from Watford to become their new manager and is staying loyal to Dundee United.
The struggling Championship club wanted Levein to replace Adrian Boothroyd, but the ex-Hearts and Leicester boss is keen to continue his work at Tannadice.
"Watford came in at the weekend and made an enquiry," he told The Sun.
"It's a big job but I wasn't the slightest bit interested.
"No disrespect to Watford, but I won't be leaving Dundee United unless I get the boot or something really attractive comes up. My intention is to be here for the next few years, that's for sure.
"I'm still a hugely ambitious person and want to manage at the top level.
"But I like it here and I'm happy, which is a big thing for me."
Levein qualified his comments by revealing the reasons why he left Hearts for a crack at Leicester City - and a job which did not work out - four years ago.
"When I left Hearts I was desperate to go. We were playing well and had a really good team, but there was so much turmoil behind the scenes it was all being overshadowed," he said.
"So when the Leicester thing came up I was out of there.
"I just wanted away - but that's not why you should take a job.
"I guess what I'm saying is I would never do the Dundee United fans a disservice by saying I'll never leave this club.
"If I do leave at some point, it would only be for something I thought would give me the chance to achieve what I want to - or I'm sacked."
