'Tiny' jumped at chance of move

Watford, 16:08, February 4, 2010 ,

Martin Taylor says he jumped at the chance to join Watford after meeting boss Malky Mackay and is now targeting promotion.

The central defender turned in an accomplished debut in the 3-0 victory over Sheffield United on Tuesday after joining from Premier League side Birmingham City.
The experienced star was very impressed with the way Mackay sold the Hornets to him and now he believes there is enough quality at Vicarage Road to mount a serious promotion charge in what remains of the season.
He said: "I spoke to Malky and I was really impressed by him.
"Watford have got a great tradition and I spoke to a lot of people who have played here and know the club and they said that Watford are a good young side and there's a lot of positives there.
"I wasn't really playing at Birmingham and it was time to move on to a new adventure and after speaking to the manager I thought it was a great opportunity for me."
Taylor added on the club's website: "We were really high tempo just like the manager had asked us to be and I'm just really pleased as a defender to keep a clean sheet as well.
"I thought the rest of the lads in the back four and the goalkeeper were great.
"I aim to achieve as much as possible here, obviously the way we played against Sheffield United - if we could play like that in every game then we'd be top of the league!
"But hopefully we can get up there and thereabouts and show how good we are as a team."
"They are all great and play at a high tempo, there's a lot of ability here and I hope to add something to the team.
"Jay DeMerit's got a lot of experience at the back and it's important that you have that experience in a group of young lads.
"If we can keep up performances like the one against United for the next few games we can really start pushing and that's when you do need that consistency that Malky mentions."
