Baggies looking for Simpson saviour
West Bromwich Albion, 13:06, December 27, 2008 ,
Tony Mowbray says he is hoping that new loan signing Jay Simpson will provide West Brom with the quality needed to avoid relegation.
The Arsenal youngster will join up with the Baggies in the next few days and is eligible to play from January with Mowbray's side currently rooted to the foot of the Premier League.
However, Mowbray is hopeful that the 20-year-old will give West Brom the added goal threat they have been lacking when his deal begins in the New Year.
"It was very evident yesterday (at Chelsea) that we lacked a cutting edge and quality to seriously threaten the opposition," Mowbray told the Birmingham Mail.
"We need help in that department and this boy (Simpson) is an unknown quantity at Premier League level.
"Can he score goals? I don't know but we'll give him that opportunity.
"He's had a good upbringing and we'll try and provide a platform for him to see if, from his perspective, he can be an Arsenal star for the future.
"He will join us come January and we'll see if he can put himself in our team.
"He won't be able to play until January but he will be here until the end of the season."
