Bolton remain keen on Baggies ace

West Bromwich Albion, 17:56, January 1, 2009

Bolton are set to go back to West Brom with an improved offer for midfielder James Morrison after Albion rejected an initial £3m bid.

The Baggies immediately rebuffed Bolton's first £3million offer but Gary Megson is very keen on the 22-year-old and wants to secure his services in the January transfer window.

The midfielder has become a key part of Tony Mowbray's first-team squad and the Baggies boss will do all he can to keep one of his best players although he is aware a new big-money offer could tempt the Albion board to cash in.

Meanwhile, Mowbray has revealed he wants to sign at least 'three or four' more players in on loan this month following the capture of Arsenal youngster Jay Simpson.

"At least half the teams in our league would be wary about loaning us a player because the table is so tight," Mowbray said.

"I have talked about a competitive midfielder but it would have to be the right one and if we don't get that, we will persevere with what we've got.

"While there is nobody at our club who is naturally a defensive-minded midfield player, it's not something I lose sleep about."
