Di Matteo makes first signing
West Bromwich Albion, 16:07, July 8, 2009 ,
Roberto Di Matteo has revealed Simon Cox snubbed interest from the Premier League to join West Brom from Swindon in a £1.9m deal.
The 22-year-old striker is Di Matteo's first signing since he took over at the Hawthorns and joins from the Robins with a big reputation after he struck 32 goals in all competitions for the League One side last term.
The Baggies boss is delighted with the capture and revealed he rejected several other sides to sign for Albion.
"Simon is an exciting, young talent with bags of ambition, hunger and determination," said Di Matteo on the club's website.
"He has a very good goalscoring record and I think he will be a great asset for our team next season.
"I've seen him many times and he has the ability to do well in the Championship. He had a lot of interest from other clubs, including one or two Premier League clubs, and we are very happy that he has signed for us."
