Tony Mowbray is concerned basement club West Brom are not ruthless enough to climb off the foot of the Premier League.
An Emmerson Boyce goal two minutes from time at the JJB on Saturday secured Wigan a 2-1 win to keep Albion rooted in bottom spot.
The Baggies have only scored 11 Premier League goals since returning to the top flight and manager Mowbray is worried a lack of killer instinct could cost his players.
He said: "I thought we played OK today, the balance of the team was fine. We created more than enough chances to win the game but ended up losing it.
"Generally week-in, week-out we are better than the opposition on the balance of play. Yet football is about being clinical in both boxes.
"We have got to keep going. We have what we have - but we paid a heavy price in this game."
