Lions scotch Whitbread for Baggies talk

West Bromwich Albion, 11:03, October 17, 2008 ,

Millwall have moved swiftly to deny speculation linking defender Zak Whitbread with a January transfer window move to West Brom.

The highly-rated central defender had previously been linked with a move to Everton and recent reports suggest Baggies boss Tony Mowbray has ear-marked him as a potential target. However the League One outfit have ruled out the prospect of losing Whitbread even if £1million is offered.
Chief operating officer Andy Ambler told the Southwark News: "There has not been any approach for Zak from any club since I have been here, and the rumours about Kenny as well are absolutely ridiculous.
"It is flattering that our players and our manager are being linked with other clubs. That is a sign that we are successful, as that doesn't happen when you are losing.
"The more successful this club gets, the more we expect to see these rumours coming out in the press, but we are focused on getting Millwall into the Championship and that means keeping our best players."
