Bolton boss Gary Megson is closing in on his first signing of the window but it is unlikely to be West Brom midfielder James Morrison.
Megson has already failed with one bid of £3million for the Scotland international, after the Baggies threw it straight out, and is now weighing up whether or not to go back in with a new improved offer.
In the meantime, the Trotters boss admits he is closing in on what he hopes will be the first of three signings during the January window. Megson is mentioning no names but it is thought West Ham defender Callum Davenport could be the man.
"We are in the process of bringing one player in," he said. "We have tried for more, but we should be able to get that one done sooner rather than later.
"We made an offer for James Morrison at West Brom which was turned down and we have made tentative enquiries on another two players. We'll see what happens after the weekend with them.
"I don't know whether we will go back in for James. The offer was turned down flat. The position we are looking at, James' name is not the only one in the frame, so it might depend on what is happening elsewhere as well."
