West Brom striker Roman Bednar is in a fight with Luke Moore to replace Ishmael Miller in the side but he claims he is ready to play.
The Czech international is the favourite to replace Miller, who was this week ruled out for the remainder of the season after damaging cruciate knee ligaments.
Bednar remains confident he can take over from Miller and fire the goals for the Baggies in the clash with Sunderland.
"Everybody's really sad for Ishmael because he's important for us," Bednar told the expressandstar.
"He scored some good goals for us and I just wished him all the best when I saw him at the training ground.
"If the gaffer wants to bring new players in during January, I understand we need competition in the squad. But, of course, I want to fight for my place. I'm ready to start against Sunderland, if selected."
