Nantes have confirmed their interest in want-away midfielder Julien Faubert but say they have not yet contacted West Ham.
The Ligue 1 club, nicknamed the Canaries, appear to be waiting for the Hammers to make the first move as rumours of the club's financial plight spread across the channel.
The 25-year-old has been a disappointment to Hammers fans since his £6million move from Bordeaux in 2007 and recently admitted he would welcome the chance to rebuild his career back home.
Lyon and Paris St Germain are rumoured to have shown some interest, but Nantes - who are coached by Faubert's ex-Bordeaux boss Elie Baup - have confirmed he is a realistic option for them in the January transfer window.
Nantes sporting director Christian Lariepe told RMC: "Faubert belongs to the list of players who do not play much for their club. It is clear that we like elements of his profile. For the moment there has been no contact. But he can be an interesting option for us."
