Deal off for striker

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce is set to give up his chase to land Norwich striker Grant Holt as the price is too high.

The striker - who has handed in a transfer request at Carrow Road - looks likely to stay where he is for the time being at least. West Ham are understood to have pulled the plug on the big man who they saw as a player to share the striking duties with Carlton Cole. But after City knocked back a final bid of around £4 million up front and £1.5 million in add ons the Londoners have decided to start looking elsewhere.
