Grant on trail of Hapoel star

West Ham manager Avram Grant has played down talk he is lining up a January bid for Hapoel Tel-Aviv striker Etey Schechter.
The Israel international scored 22 goals in 34 appearances to help Hapoel win the League and Cup double last season and he has begun this term well, banging in four goals for his club so far while also finding the back of the net for Israel in their 2-1 defeat earlier this month against Croatia.
Grant's Israeli background has led to suggestions he is keen on the forward and there have been reports linking the Hammers with a New Year bid for Schechter.
However, Grant says it is too early to comment on his transfer window plans, but did admit he is a talented player who has been recommended to the club.
