West Ham will be without summer signing Thomas Hitzlsperger for two more weeks - scotching hopes of a first start against Chelsea.
The German is sidelined by a thigh problem picked up on international duty on the eve of the Premier League season but hopes were high he would be fit when the Hammers entertain the Blues.
However, the former Aston Villa midfielder is facing another fortnight on the sidelines with the trip to Stoke on September 18 now a more likely return date.
Hitzlsperger's availability is likely to put pressure on Mark Noble's place in the West Ham engine room although his left foot makes the 28-year-old an option out side.
