West Ham boss Gianfranco Zola is backing his team to beat the drop despite their 2-1 defeat to Bolton yesterday.
The Italian was furious with the Hammers slow start which saw them fall two down to goals by Kevin Davies and Jack Wilshere inside the opening 16 minutes at Upton Park.
Zola's men eventually woke up and mounted a spirited comeback after Bolton had Tamir Cohen sent off for two bookable offences in the second-half.
However, by the time Alessandro Diamanti curled in a late consolation, it was too late to rescue anything from a game the former Chelsea favourite expected to win.
Zola said: "I'm disappointed, I wasn't expecting that. Nobody was. The way we started the game determined the result.
"They were better than us and took advantage of their opportunities. In the second half it was difficult, we tried until the end but it's our fault and I have no complaints.
"We had opportunities to come back after the goal but by then it was too late. We lost points today and I told the players we have to go and get them back somewhere else."
The Hammers hopes of doing that will be tested to the full though as their next two games are at title-chasing Chelsea and Arsenal, but Zola remains upbeat about their chances.
He added: "I don't care if we're playing Chelsea or Arsenal. Last year we got a point in both games, so you never know. I'm not going to go there already beaten, that's for sure. In football you never know and I am not going to give up."
