Blades close in on Latics defender

Wigan Athletic, 10:42, January 18, 2010

Wigan defender Erik Edman has confirmed he is interested in a loan move to Championship side Sheffield United.

Edman suffered a knee injury in the summer and has struggled to force his way into Roberto Martinez's side, making just three starts in all competitions with Maynor Figueroa in fine form at full-back this season.
The 31-year-old is now fully fit again, however, and looking for first-team football with his agent Allan Bak saying Sheffield United is the most likely destination.
Edman has been the subject of interest from a number of clubs abroad, but is currently expecting his third child and is reluctant to move, preferring a loan deal instead.
He told the club's website: "There has been a big interest from Dutch clubs and recently Erik turned down a big German club that wanted to take him on loan till this summer. Sheffield United would suit Erik really good. The club has expressed a big interest in loaning Edman."
