Bruce believes in Carling tonic

Wigan Athletic, 12:36, November 11, 2008 ,

Steve Bruce wants his Wigan players to pull off a Carling Cup upset at Arsenal before re-igniting their Premier League campaign.

Latics have slipped down the table after a run of just one win in their last six outings and Bruce is likely to go with experience - rather than youth - at a sold-out Emirates Stadium to build up confidence ahead of a crucial game at Newcastle on Saturday.
The JJB boss, however, will give the Carling Cup his full attention tonight and expects a difficult match against Arsene Wenger's young Gunners.
Bruce said: "This is a big week for us, with Arsenal tonight then Newcastle away in the league on Saturday.
"It's a chance to briefly get away from the pressure of putting league points on the board, but one we're taking seriously.
"Until the weekend, people were talking about Arsenal being in crisis - it just shows what nonsense is written about the Premier League sometimes.
"If a club like Arsenal go two or three games without a win - and that is all it was - then suddenly they're in crisis. That is the pressure the Premier League breeds for us managers.
"Then what happens? Arsenal go and beat Manchester United, and they looked great doing it. You can hardly call that a crisis."
