Bruce's survival thinking
Wigan Athletic, 12:02, November 24, 2008 ,
Wigan boss Steve Bruce thinks 40 points might be the figure this season which guarantees Premier League status.
Latics entertain Everton tonight looking to win only their second home game in the league this term, although it will be difficult against a Blues side who have been better on the road than at home so far.
And Bruce concedes his side needs to up their game if they want to avoid another battle against relegation to the Championship next May.
The JJB chief admitted: "If you can take 38 points from 38 games it is usually enough. However, you might need 40 this season given how crowded things are.
"We are bang on target for 38 at the moment although we could have been a few points better off."
Bruce added: "Hopefully we can get a few more in the next couple of games although Everton are always difficult opposition.
"They have good players and we know (manager) David Moyes will have them fired up."
