Cattermole the complete player - Martinez
Wigan Athletic, 10:03, July 29, 2009 ,
Roberto Martinez says he is desperate to keep Lee Cattermole at Wigan and sees him as vital to the club's success.
Sunderland have been tracking the England Under-21 international since Steve Bruce left the DW Stadium and completed his move to the Stadium of Light, with Liverpool and Arsenal also monitoring the midfielder's progress.
The Black Cats have already reportedly had a bid turned down for Cattermole but that hasn't stopped Bruce going vocal in his ambitions to lure the former Middlesbrough midfielder back to the north east.
However, Wigan have stood firm over any possible move for Cattermole and Martinez says he the club are determined to keep him.
"I'm not surprised by the speculation when you look at his last campaign, and then the role he played for the Under-21s," Martinez told Sky Sports News.
"My only worry was he wouldn't get a big enough break.
"You're looking at him as a whole. He is a complete player and the sort of player we need at the club."
