Cotterill remains on Blackwell's hit list
Wigan Athletic, 11:44, July 24, 2008 ,
Sheffield United boss Kevin Blackwell is aiming to step up his efforts to sign Wigan winger David Cotterill during the close-season.
The Blades chief has made no secret of the fact that he would like to take the 20-year-old back to Bramall Lane before the new Championship season gets underway with a televised clash against Birmingham City on August 9 following his successful loan spell last term.
However Wigan's determination to claw back the £2million they paid Bristol City for his signature in August 2006 looks to be a major stumbling block as the Blades have just shelled out that figure of cash on Watford striker Darius Henderson and cash is now tight.
Blackwell can only go to around £1million which could scupper his hopes, although with the good relationship built up between the two clubs following the Carlos Tevez affair, it is thought they are working hard to reach a compromise. Therefore if a cash deal cannot be agreed then Cotterill could be allowed to join the Blades on loan for another season.
