Heskey could leave JJB - Whelan

Emile Heskey would be allowed to leave Wigan if he expressed a desire to move on, according to the club's chairman Dave Whelan.

The 30-year-old England international striker was linked with a move away from the JJB Stadium during the summer transfer window as Tottenham were thought to be pondering a swoop. And, with reports still linking Heskey with a possible departure in January, Whelan has admitted that he could go if he wants to, despite hoping to keep him on board.

He said in The People: "We don't want Emile to go, but football is football.

"If somebody pays enough money and Emile wants to go we would never try to keep a player.

"We don't want him to leave and he's happy here, but if anything develops Emile will have the final say."
