Heskey set for Cup absence

Wigan striker Emile Heskey is unlikely to face Arsenal in the Carling Cup because of a back problem, says boss Steve Bruce.

The England striker is also a doubt for England's friendly in Germany on November 19 although Three Lions coach Fabio Capello is tipped to include fringe players in Berlin anyway.

Heskey was forced off in the draw with Stoke last time out and Bruce has now confirmed: "Emile's got a back injury and he's a big doubt for Tuesday.

"He had a back injury which we thought was hamstring related. He will see the physio and see how bad it is.

"But I would have thought at this early stage, he must be a doubt (for England)."

Latics will take on what is sure to be a youthful Arsenal in the fourth round of the Carling Cup at the Emirates.
