Mike Pollitt has signed a new one-year contract at Wigan with Roberto Martinez "delighted" to have persuaded the keeper to stay.
It was though the 38-year-old would be on the move this summer following the arrival of Vladimir Stojkovic on loan from Sporting Lisbon during the January transfer window.
But despite the extra competition and conceding eight goals on the final day at Chelsea, Pollitt has put pen-to-paper on a 12-month extension at the DW Stadium.
Latics boss Martinez said: "Mike is a terrific goalkeeper first and foremost, with great experience. He continues to set standards on a daily basis that the younger players can follow."
