Wigan will be without goalkeeper Chris Kirkland for up to three weeks after he damaged his collarbone in training.
The 28-year-old suffered the injury during a collision last week and has been ordered to rest.
Latics boss Roberto Martinez told the club's official website, "I'm disappointed to lose him but the diagnosis is much better than it could have been."
Fitness problems have plagued the former Liverpool keeper throughout his career but Martinez insists this latest setback is not related to his long standing back issues.
Martinez added: "It's a completely new injury. Chris should be back in full training within a fortnight hopefully.
"It's important that we get him back in contention as soon as possible, but we have to be certain the injury is healed before risking him."
Kirkland is expected to be replaced by Serbian international goalkeeper Vladimir Stojkovic during his lay-off after joining Wigan on loan from Sporting Lisbon earlier month.
