Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp watched his side smash Wigan 9-1 and then backed Latics chief Roberto Martinez to be 'a great success'.
Redknapp spoke out following Sunday's humiliating victory over the Lancashire outfit at White Hart Lane after which question marks were raised against Martinez's managerial abilities.
Latics chairman Dave Whelan backed the Spaniard to get things right at the DW Stadium and Redknapp was quick to back him up.
He told the Wigan Observer: "Wigan have a terrific young manager - he's excellent.
"I liked him when he was at Swansea, where he did a great job and got them playing fantastic football. He's gone to Wigan, and I'm sure he's going to be a great success there as well."
Meanwhile, despite Spurs' handsome victory, Redknapp was still angry that Paul Scharner's consolation was allowed to stand after the Austrian appeared to handle the ball in the build up.
He added: "It was handball. It was as blatant as Thierry Henry's handball - and I haven't even seen a replay.
"If he could have controlled it with his body, he would have. I'm surprised the referee didn't spot it. I can't believe he missed it."
