Latics face Belgian battle
Wigan are believed to be trying to seal a loan deal for Manchester City defender Dedryck Boyata, but face competition for his services.
Latics are keen to add fresh faces to the squad in the next fortnight before the January window closes and Boyata would bring important Premier League experience.
The Belgian joined City last January but has struggled to hold down a regular first-team place, making just two league appearances this season - with his last start coming in the 3-0 defeat to Arsenal in last October - when he was sent off.
Manchester City are willing to allow the 20-year-old to leave Eastlands on loan until the end of the season, with Wigan and Standard Liege fighting it out for his signature.
