Latics set for Egyptian treat

Wigan Athletic, 12:20, July 13, 2008 ,

Wigan are poised to pay £1.5m to sign Egyptian international Amr Zaky on a one-year loan deal, according to reports in Africa.

Latics boss Steve Bruce is said to have reached agreement with his Egyptian side El-Zamalek to take the 25-year-old striker for next season, with the option to complete a permanent £4.5 million move for him if he impresses at the JJB Stadium.
Zaky originally accepted a contract extension with the Egyptian side El-Zamalek before the Latics showed an interest.
El-Zamalek initially permitted Zaky to leave, only for club chairman Mamdouh Abbas to then change his mind and block any possible transfer.
Zaky approached the Egyptian FA to no avail and was planning to take the matter to the world governing body FIFA, but the Egyptian international met with board member Ahmed Tawfeek late on Sunday and the matter has reportedly been resolved.
With his move apparently imminent, Zaky is unlikely to feature in the CAF Champions League clash against El-Ahly next week.
