Latics star eyes move

Wigan Athletic, 10:52, June 20, 2009 ,

Utility man Paul Scharner will leave Wigan this summer for either Fulham or Hamburg, his agent has confirmed.

The Austria international was expected to join Aston Villa in the close season but turned his back on a move to the Midlands when he discovered manager Martin O'Neill wanted him to play in defence - not midfield.
Now, Premier League rivals Fulham are chasing Scharner although his agent, Valentin Hobel, says he could yet complete a move to Hamburg in Germany.
"Aston Villa wanted him as a defender and that is why they are no longer an option," said Hobel.
"Fulham are strong at the moment. However, there is still the possibility he could go to Germany with Hamburg.
"He will look at his options very carefully.
"If they can offer concrete figures and everything else all fits into place, then it could happen quickly and all be concluded within a week."
