Wigan Athletic have loaned Ryan Watson to Accrington Stanley in a deal that will keep him at the League Two club until the new year.
The Latics see the switch, which ends official on January 2, as the next stage in the 19-year-old's career, after watching him progress from their youth team into the development squad last season under the guidance of Graham Barrow.
Watson follows in the footsteps of Lee Nicholls and Rob Kiernan, who both benefited greatly from their spell with Stanley last term even though the latter saw his stay cut short by injury.
The midfielder is grateful to Accrington for giving him the opportunity to impress and he is determined to make the most of it.
Watson said: "I really wanted to get some league games under my belt.
"This is going to be very different to the reserves where I've been used to playing and hopefully it'll be a better standard for me to get some games."
