Mario puts Latics on red alert
Wigan Athletic, 22:45, November 3, 2008 ,
Wigan captain Mario Melchiot says his Latics team-mates are on red alert to stop Rory Delap's long throws causing them problems.
The Dutchman says he has never seen a throw as flat and powerful as the one Delap propelled into the Gunners box to set up Stoke's second goal against Arsenal on Saturday.
Stoke have scored seven goals from 88 throws taken by the Republic of Ireland international and Melchiot, speaking ahead of Saturday's clash with Delap's Potters at the JJB, recognises that it is a source of danger.
He told Sky Sports News: "My throw is strong but I don't think there's anyone in the league that can throw like him."
"It was one hell of a throw in (against Arsenal), I've seen it a couple of times.
"It is a great weapon he has," he added. "We have to make sure we are prepared and ready for it."
