McArthur enjoying Cup distractions
James McArthur says Saturday's FA Cup final gives his Wigan side the perfect distraction from their current relegation battle.
The Latics will face 2011 winners Manchester City, in a game that promises to be one of the most open and exciting Wembley showpieces of recent years.
The match will allow the Wigan players to relax and get back to playing their expansive style of football, following a dramatic last week which saw them claim a brilliant three points against West Brom before suffering a disappointing defeat against Swansea, in a loss that means they now look extremely likely to be relegated.
However, Roberto Martinez's men have a habit of turning on the style against the big teams and punters may look to use their free bet to back them to cause an upset against the Citizens.
McArthur admits Saturday's game is proving a nice a distraction for both him and his team-mates and believes they have the ability to lift the famous old trophy.
"We've done it all season. It's been a really good distraction for us. We've built momentum from the FA Cup and hopefully we can do it again," the Scottish international said. "We want to win the cup and we want to stay up."
"We're a good side, we can beat anyone on our day, we've proved that. We obviously need to stop conceding so many goals to have a chance because Manchester City are a very good side."
