Mido could fill Heskey void

Wigan Athletic, 10:21, November 27, 2008 ,

Steve Bruce will look to revive his interest in Middlesbrough's leading goalscorer Mido in the January window, according to reports.

The Wigan manager knows he needs to act fast to bring in a replacement for current striker Emile Heskey, who is out of contract at the end of the season, and wants to team Egypt frontman Mido up with countryman Amr Zaki in a new-look JJB strikeforce.
Latics boss Bruce was knocked back by Riverside counterpart Gareth Southgate in the summer, but he may now be tempted to do business to generate funds for his own New Year recruitment drive.
Former Tottenham man Mido has managed just 20 top-flight appearances, with 12 starts, since his move to Teesside from north London 15 months ago, although he remains Boro's leading marksman this season with five goals.
Bruce accepts he may have to cash in on Heskey, 30, in January if suitors Aston Villa and Tottenham firm up their interest and views Mido as the man to beef up his attack.
