New Honduran in Bruce's sights

Wigan Athletic, 16:22, February 17, 2009 ,

Wigan are reported to be tracking Honduras international Victor Bernardez and could make a summer move for the defender.

The 27-year-old, who is an international colleague of former Latics star Wilson Palacios, is only on loan at the Belgian side from Montagua until the end of the season but is thought to be keen on a permanent move to Europe and has been watched by Latics scouts in recent weeks.
The Belgian side have first option on the player come the end of the season but interest from Steve Bruce could see Bernardez moving to the JJB.
Wigan scouts were in attendance to watch Bernardez in international action against Costa Rica last Wednesday and he insists he has proved he can be a success at Anderlecht and doesn't feel under any extra pressure on a short-term deal.
"I know that my [Anderlecht] contract lasts for six months, but that doesn't put me under any extra pressure," he told reporters in Ecuador.
"I have already shown with my work and perseverance that things can turn out well."
