Scharner hails battling Latics

Wigan utility man Paul Scharner has revealed Latics' stars worked overtime in order to bounce back from the Spurs mauling.

Roberto Martinez's side beat Steve Bruce's Sunderland 1-0 at the DW Stadium on Saturday afternoon to banish the memory of the 9-1 hammering at White Hart Lane six days earlier.
And Scharner, who is being linked with Everton, admitted the extra effort paid off to good effect.
He said: "It was very quiet the last week on the training pitch. Everyone was focused on doing their best.
"It was a tough week. We were in every day, we didn't have a day off, and you can see it worked.
"For me it was a good response from the whole team. We fought the whole 90 minutes."
