Scharner puts Latics in doghouse

Wigan Athletic, 11:54, February 11, 2010 ,

Paul Scharner has told Latics they can't keep losing leads in matches or they will end up in the end-of-season relegation dogfight.

For the second time in the space of three days Latics lost a lead and had to settle for a point, making a total of seven times this season that Roberto Martinez's side have failed to win after scoring the first goal.
Wigan's inability to hold on is putting the club's top-flight status in jeopardy, according to Scharner.
"The Stoke was the second game in a row we've lost a one-goal lead, and it is starting to get disappointing," said the Austrian.
"We're in the middle of a relegation battle, and in these types of games we should be looking to come away with all three points. We tried really hard to add a second goal, particularly in the first half.
"But it's in the second half where our problems lie - we can't seem to sustain the performance over 90 minutes. We have to keep our opponents under pressure for the whole game, and I think that should be our focus now for the rest of the season."
