Shut the window earlier - Martinez

Wigan Athletic, 16:36, September 3, 2010 , | No Comments

Wigan boss Roberto Martinez has again called on the authorities to have the transfer window close before the start of a new season.

The Spanish tactician was hugely frustrated as constant speculation surrounding Charles N'Zogbia created disharmony in the dressing room and played a large part in their disastrous two home defeats against Blackpool and Chelsea in which they shipped ten goals and scored none.
Martinez feels that if the transfer window closed before the season started then it would have left his squad free to focus on football matters.
"We are not helping the players at all," Martinez told Sky Sports News. "The transfer window should not be in the middle of important game for a football club. We can't blame the players for it, the authorities need to look into it."
He added: "It is not a time to blame individuals and footballers. It is a time to change the transfer-window timings. It is unfair on the players, the fans and the league.
"The window should close the Friday before the first game of the season. It will then allow you to focus on your team. At present it is unfair if players are distracted by possible interest from other clubs. It has not just happened at Wigan, it has happened all over the Premier League."
