Stojkovic in line for Latics debut

Wigan Athletic, 09:18, January 8, 2010 ,

New loan signing Vladimir Stojkovic is set to replace the ill Chris Kirkland in Wigan's goal for Saturday's visit of Aston Villa.

Latics boss Roberto Martinez swooped to sign the 26-year-old Serbia international custodian from Sporting Lisbon on Thursday afternoon on a deal until the end of the season after regular number two Richard Kingson went to the African Cup of Nations with Ghana. And, with Kirkland still struggling to shake off a virus which ruled him out of last Saturday's FA Cup win against Hull, Stojkovic could be thrown in at the deep end at Villa Park.
"Everyone knows about the quality of the English Premier League," he said.
"So to get a chance like this is a fantastic opportunity for me.
"It is going to be very tough because I know the quality of the goalkeepers already here but every professional trains to play first-team football.
"I am looking forward to the challenge of getting in the team and fighting for a place."
Meanwhile Paul Scharner, Jordi Gomez, Charles N'Zogbia and Emerson Boyce should be restored to the starting line-up after missing the Tigers cup clash last weekend.
