Sunderland to move for defender
Wigan Athletic, 13:29, July 20, 2010 ,
Wigan are bracing themselves for a big money offer from Sunderland for the services of defender Titus Bramble.
Sunderland boss Steve Bruce is said to be pondering a move for his former centre half and is lining up a £5m move for the player. Bruce knows all about Bramble having been credited with saving his career when he landed him from Newcastle on a free transfer in 2007 when he was manager at the Latics.
Sunderland's number one target, Schalke's Heiko Westermann, looks like he is staying where he is so a move for Bramble looks to be on the cards although he has a stress fracture of his foot and looks likely to miss the start of the season.
Wigan may be very reluctant to sell to Bruce and they have already rebuffed his advances for Maynor Figueroa and Charles N'Zogbia but £5m for the services of someone who cost nothing maybe too good for Roberto Martinez to turn down.
