United 'set to wing in' for Latic

Wigan Athletic, 10:42, June 12, 2009 ,

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan believes it is only a matter of time before Man Utd make a bid for winger Antonio Valencia.

The Red Devils are set to be boosted by the £80m sale of Cristiano Ronaldo and the Glazer family have already announced Sir Alex Ferguson will be backed in the transfer market this summer.
And Whelan has revealed Ferguson kept an extremely close eye on the 23-year-old Ecuador international last season.
He said: "Will Sir Alex pay a big, juicy price for Antonio? He had him watched in every game last season and he holds Antonio in high regard. There is no question he is interested.
"Sir Alex is a shrewd operator. He is the finest manager the world has ever seen. We have to take our hats off to him."
Real Madrid have also been linked with Valencia.

As soon as a club makes a move for Valencia we'll let you know with a text from our mobile alert service.
