Whelan reveals boss backing
Chairman Dave Whelan has warned Wigan fans that he could walk away from the club if they call for boss Roberto Martinez to be sacked.
The Latics supremo has spoken out after the 37-year-old Spaniard was made favourite to be the first Premier League managerial casualty of the season when they lost their opening two games on home soil to Blackpool and Chelsea with 10 goals conceded and none scored. However, Sunday's 1-0 win at Tottenham eased some of the pressure and Whelan has now stressed that he backs Martinez fully and would consider his own position at the DW Stadium should the fans demands the manager be sacked. "I rate Roberto highly and said to the fans, if you want his head, you'll get mine as well," Whelan told BBC Sport. He added: "Had they insisted, and even if we would have lost at Tottenham and they start crying for his head and had he asked to go, I would definitely have resigned with him."
