Wigan chase Toffee's forward

Wigan Athletic, 11:30, July 17, 2008 ,

Wigan manager Steve Bruce has been given the go-ahead to launch a £9million bid for Everton striker Andy Johnson.

It is believed that Toffee's chairman Bill Kenwright and manager David Moyes have agreed to sell the striker and it appears that Wigan are leading the race to sign Johnson.
However the Latics could have a fight on their hands with Fulham thought to be preparing a bid of their own, while Sunderland and West Ham are also in the hunt to sign him.
Before Bruce can complete the signing of the former Crystal Palace forward it is thought that Wigan chairman Dave Whelan wants £30,000-a-week strikers Henri Camara and Antone Sibierski off the payroll if the club are to pay Johnson the £50,000-a-week he wants.
