Boss targets deal for Chelsea star
Wolverhampton Wanderers, 14:38, June 27, 2010 ,
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has confirmed his desire to bring Michael Mancienne back to Molineux from Chelsea in a permanent deal.
The 22-year-old has spent most of the last two seasons in the Black Country where he has been a key figure for McCarthy either in defence or in midfield.
The Chelsea youngster first helped Wolves win promotion to the Premier League and then last term helped them stay in the top-flight.
It's understood owner Steve Morgan is now ready to finance the move to enable Mancienne to make his switch full-time providing the Blues give him the go ahead to leave.
McCarthy said: "If Chelsea say he's available then we would have an interest. Until they clarify what their plans for Michael are, it's very difficult to comment.
"We think the world of Michael at this club - he's a good player, he knows the set-up and he's a popular lad with the squad.
"I think Michael's future depends on what home-grown players Chelsea bring in because they have a balance to strike.
"It's not like going to Tesco and taking tins off the supermarket shelf - as we all know, getting the right players is very difficult.
"The biggest issue is where Chelsea see Michael's future."
