Elokobi woe could see Wolves swoop
Wolverhampton Wanderers, 17:15, August 27, 2008
Mick McCarthy could step his bid to sign a new defender after it was revealed George Elokobi may miss the rest of Wolves' season.
The Wolves boss revealed that the 22-year-old January signing from Colchester damaged most of his knee ligaments during the weekend win at Ipswich and the Cameroonian is bracing himself for the news it could mean a season-long lay-off.The Molineux medical staff are due to assess a scan of Elokobi's knee on Wednesday and will know better how severe the injury is and how long he will be out for.
However McCarthy told the Express & Star: "We think George has damaged all the ligaments in his knee to some magnitude or other. We don't know completely yet, it's just settling down, but it's a bad injury.
"It looks like he's got damage to his medial, his lateral and his anterior cruciate."
The injury along, with the loss of Jody Craddock, means McCarthy might intensify his search for a new stopper before the transfer deadline on Monday following suggestions he had seen a bid for Sunderland's Danny Higginbotham turned down on Tuesday.
