Yeovil have been priced out of a move for Southampton defender Ryan Dickson because of a contract clause triggered by the Saints promotion.
Left-back Dickson impressed on loan at Huish Park at the start of the year and Glovers boss Gary Johnson was hoping to snap him up this summer.
But a pay rise clause was activated in his contract following Southampton's promotion to the Barclays Premier League, pricing Yeovil out of a move for the former Plymouth man.
"Ryan would be a good signing and we would love to take him, but his money has gone up double for Southampton getting to the Premier League," Johnson told the club's official website.
"Players don't like to give up that money too easily and he has another year on his deal, so financially that would be impossible and that's a no."
Dickson made five appearances for Yeovil last season during his loan spell.
