Defender boost for Wenger

Bacary Sagna has recovered from a shoulder problem and will return when Arsenal take on Aston Villa this evening.

Sagna is set to slot straight back into the Gunners defence while boss Arsene Wenger will draft Thomas Vermaelen, William Gallas and Gael Clichy back into the side after they were rested against Stoke in the FA Cup.

Gunners midfielder Abou Diaby remains sidelined with a calf problem while the game will come too soon for Nicklas Bendtner and Samir Nasri who are battling back from groin and hamstring injuries respectively.

Alex Song and Emmanuel Eboue are still at the African Cup of Nations, while Robin van Persie (ankle), Kieran Gibbs (foot) and Johan Djourou (knee) are long-term absentees.
