Higuain receives backing

Former Tottenham midfielder Ossie Ardiles has backed Rel Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain to flourish if he secures a move to Arsenal.

Higuain has been on the radar of Arsene Wenger all summer and it would seem that the Premier League outfit are on the verge of securing their prime target.

Ardiles believes that the former River Plate striker can repeat the success of Robin van Persie at the Emirates and become a fans' favourite.

Higuain has scored 122 goals in 266 appearances for the Santiago Bernabeu side but has recently struggled for regular football.

Ardiles said: "As good as Robin van Persie? Of course he can be, that's how good Higuain is. You remember that when Van Persie arrived he was not exactly, immediately, the best player, it took a bit of time. But he was younger - Higuain is much more experienced.

"He's a top, top player. He will always score goals. He likes to be in the box all the time and he works hard for his team - wherever he goes, he's going to be great for the team that he's joining."
