Wenger eyes semi-final spot

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says he will use a "mixture of youth and experience" against Southampton on Wednesday.

The Gunners entertain Saints in the quarter-finals of the EFL Cup and Wenger has confirmed he will make changes to his side, with keeper Emiliano Martinez expected to be involved after featuring in the previous rounds.

Wenger is keen for Arsenal to secure a spot in the last four but he confirmed he will again rotate his squad for the cup competition.

“We will have a mixture of youth and experience, but still 90 per cent of a first-team squad,” he said.

"It’s a very difficult game but it’s our next game, and our task is to always win our next game.

“Everybody’s conscious that this is an opportunity for us to pass another round and get into the semi-final. That’s what we want. We have the opportunity of playing at home and we want to take advantage of that.”
