I'll be Villa's Lampard - Bacuna
Latest news update:
New signing Leandro Bacuna is looking to model himself on Chelsea legend Frank Lampard for Aston Villa in the Premier League.
The 21-year-old Netherlands Under-21 international midfielder penned a three-year contract at Villa Park on Thursday evening after Villa agreed a fee with Dutch outfit FC Groningen and he agreed terms before passing a medical.
Bacuna arrives with plenty of experience having made over 100 appearances for his previous club and Villa boss Paul Lambert backed him and fellow new arrival, Denmark international defender Jores Okore, to make a big impact at the club.
The youngster is also confident in his own ability as he likened his midfield performances to Lampard who recently become Premier League rivals Chelsea's all-time leading goalscorer.
"As far as heroes are concerned, I have a lot of heroes, people like Messi and Ronaldo," Bacuna told the club's official website. "But they are in a different league. Players such as Frank Lampard, they fight and they show themselves and I'm a type of player like that.
"I'm fully focused to show myself at my new club. My mentality is that you start at the bottom and you show yourself. This is what I intend to do."
