Villa chief Paul Lambert is searching the market to try and find Bosman free transfers or bargain buys as owner Randy Lerner is keeping the coffers closed while he tries to find a new buyer for the club this summer.
Joe Cole and Philippe Senderos have already joined and it appears that Lambert has now looked to the second tier of Italian football to try and bring in another player to bolster his forward options with star player Christian Benteke not expected back until the autumn after he ruptured his Achilles tendon last season.
The 26-year-old Jefferson has expressed a desire to leave Latina, who he joined on a permanent deal in 2011 following a loan spell from Fiorentina, after the club's play-off final defeat to Catania for a place in Serie A.
And with his contract up this summer, it seems he is up for a new challenge in England with reports claiming his agent has already flew into the country to discuss a move to Villa, while Championship side Leeds are also thought to be in the running for his signature.
Despite being Brazilian, Jefferson, who has scored 21 goals in 65 appearances at Latina, would not require a work permit to play in England because he now holds an Italian passport.
