Ross staying focused
Sunderland boss Jack Ross says talk surrounding his future can wait until the season is finished and the club are promoted or not.
The Black Cats are in the middle of a play-off campaign and take a 1-0 lead down to Portsmouth’s Fratton Park on Thursday night with a League One play-off final at Wembley at stake.
Thursday night’s victorious side will face either Charlton or Doncaster in the final with a place back in the Championship the dangling carrot.
Ross wants all eyes to be focused on that match on the south coast rather than his own position at the club amid all sorts of takeover speculation surrounding Sunderland.
Ross has spoken to the current owners seeking clarification on which direction the club are going to take but understandably that is a question that can’t be answered until after the play-offs ‘I’ve had some conversations with them but I haven’t chased for any clarification,’ he said.
‘I just work on the basis that if there’s anything important to tell me, they will.
I’ve had a good relationship with Stewart from day one and that continues to be the case.
‘Ultimately, that side of the club is his business and hopefully, if there is anything important they need to tell me, I’ll find out.
‘I’ve heard nothing that changes my role and how I go about it.
I could lose my job because we’re not winning games or I can lose my job for other reasons.
I can’t control that.
What I can control is how I do the job and I take pride in what I do.
‘ Portsmouth will be a tough nut to crack on Thursday but punters might like to use their free bet to back the Black Cats to come out on top at Fratton Park.
