Mane keen to win African Cup of Nations
Senegal and Liverpool winger Sadio Mane says he would swap the Champions League to win the African Cup of Nations.
The ex-Southampton man was instrumental in helping Liverpool win their sixth European title by helping them progress to the final in Madrid where they beat Tottenham Hotspur.
Now, he is hoping for his second piece of silverware in a matter of months.
Senegal got off to a good start on Saturday as they beat Tanzania 2-0, with Keita Balde and Krepin Diatta on the scoresheet.
And, the 27-year-old says he is desperate to win the African Cup of Nations, and says their place as one of the favourites should give them licence to do so.
‘I would swap the Champions League with Liverpool for an African Cup win with Senegal,’ he said.
‘Winning the competition with our country, who have never won, would be amazing.
We’d have an extraordinary return home.
It’s my big dream.
‘It’s in our hands,’ he added.
‘It’s clear that we’re one of the favourites.
‘We can’t deny it.
It’s not just enough to get results, but we have to be at our best level in every match.
‘ After the African Cup of Nations has finished, he will head back to Liverpool for pre season where fans can use their free bet to back them another Champions League title.
